ideas for script
This is Nadia, Kelsey, Laudi, & Missy brainstorming ideas for the script. These are NOT SET IN STONE!
just silly ideas
-Watergate woudn't have happened because it began with Operation Gemstone, which was just a plan to give bad publicity to the Democrats. Publicity=Media=No WATERGATE! All of operation Gemstone's effects wouldn't have happened, basically.
-Nixon wouldn't have resigned
Nixon's Goals
-reconciliation was his first goal, because the nation was divided over the war.
-wanted to improve international relations with the USSR & China.
-wanted new anti-crime laws and broad environmental programs.
-wanted world-stability
http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/rn37.html
-6 teenagers educated
-group of friends
-18 years old.
-Andrew gets drafted.
-Democrats & Republicans
-abortion
-someone pregnant? Hayley.... haha
-i got it! HAYLEY GETS PREGNANT BY ANDREW. HE DOESN'T KNOW AND GETES DRAFTED. HAYLEY IS SCARED AND MAYBE WANTS AN ABORTION. HAHAHAHAHA

yay! script
Melissa
andrew gets deployed.
while he's over seas he'll write letters to hayley and she reads them to her friends:cheers:. mainly to discuss the war and nixon's decisions over abroad.
Laudi-
hayley is good girl who has to get an abortion b4 her parents find out
bc they would kill her if they do. abortion is a quick topic just to bring up the issue and the religion aspect. NOT A MAJOR POINT IN THE SCRIPT!!!!!!!!! DONT WORRY!!!!!!!!
---let us know wat you think

Re: ideas for script
I was thinking since there are 6 of us, we could each represent an aspect of the SPERM chart. (Hayley could be social, I could be religious, Andrew military, etc.)

love the idea kelseyyy
that's a really great idea. it would be so great to show the impacts through people, it's different & creative.

Hayley would be the quiet girl, with the strict parents. She meets Andrew who is a hippie. Her parents would send to a place if they found out if they got pregnant.

Re: ideas for script
Every new day in the film will open with someone reading the newspaper.

If our characters were to vote, the character representing social would probably vote against Nixon, Political...?, Economic...?, Religious for him, Military (in this case our military we believe would be dating social and he would be drafted to Vietnam), so probably against Nixon, Daily Life for him.
I love these smileys.

Re: ideas for script
for the filming, we could start out black and really be zooming out of a newspaper. just a thought.
we could begin the video at nixon's re-election against "Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota--an outspoken antiwar liberal who had alienated many party regulars and labor leaders. McGovern selected as his running mate young Sen. Thomas Eagleton of Missouri, but shortly after the convention adjourned it was learned that Eagleton had a history of psychiatric problems. After telling the press and public that he stood behind Eagleton "1,000%" McGovern proceeded to force his running mate from the ticket. He thereby convinced many voters that he was just as slippery as Tricky Dick, and he added the appearance of political duplicity to an image already badly tarnished by charges of radicalism. As the campaign neared its climax, McGovern concentrated his fire on the mounting evidence of corruption in the Nixon Administration. His charges were, however, generally dismissed as political propaganda." http://www.trivia-library.com/a/president-richard-m-nixon-reelection-and-creep.htm
AN AWESOME QUOTE---Voting for president is a lot like sex—and not just because it takes place every four years in the solitude of a semi-private booth. Both are intensely personal activities that nonetheless can have profound public consequences. We might add that both often involve drug-and-alcohol-fueled delusions and morning-after feelings of guilt, shame, and recrimination. http://www.reason.com/news/show/29304.html

Re: ideas for script
so everyone represents an aspect on the chart.
-Nadia--political
-Hayley--Social
-Andrew--Military
-Kelsey--Religious
-Laudi & Missy--Economic & Daily Life
=) these don't have to be like that, but it's just an idea.

Re: ideas for script
Ideas for a title:
Uncovering Controversy
Or
Getting Shot
Or
12 Days of Watergate
Or
Nadia’s Revenge
Or
Richard Nixon and the Half-Blood Prince
We decided on “Uncovering Controversy”
Social – Hayley (Janet Ferrari)
Political – Nadia (Caroline Cohen)
Economic – Laudi (Lydia El-Dean)/Missy
Religion – Kelsey (Mary Quinn)
Military – Andrew (Theodore Cohen)
Daily Life – Laudi/Missy (Hazel Jackson)
Hayley (Janet) is a feminist.
Kelsey (Mary) is religious and kind of racist. But her friends become friends with Hazel.
Melissa (Hazel) just moved north from Birmingham, Alabama.
Laudi (Lydia) is an environmentalist.
Andrew (Theo) is excited to fight in Vietnam, but then he dates Janet and is introduced to the hippy sort of world.
We open every morning with the newspaper, then to transition to counterfactual we ask what would happen without news.
1972 – Juniors in high school (Janet, Mary, Hazel, Lydia, Caroline – age 16), Theo a senior age 17. Drafted end of senior year when he turns 18. Meanwhile, back at the farm, we turn 17. Andrew returns home after six months with an injury.
Mary (Kelsey) and Laudi (Lydia) fight over being friends with Hazel.
Janet – Doesn’t like Nixon because she’s very into the counterculture. She protests the war, experiments with drugs, is kind of a hippy. She’s very upset over the pentagon papers and convinces Theo not to volunteer for military service, though he’s drafted anyway. She was more for McGovern because he was very anti-war and somewhat radical. She was an extreme antiwar advocate Theo balances her out. Wacky hippy girl, her Andy Warhol.
Caroline – She’s more of a republican type. She likes Nixon and has come to appreciate his policy of détente. Her father fought in WWII and she’s accepted that her brother will go to Vietnam and is proud of him.
Hazel – Against Nixon for his lack of progress in the civil rights movement. McGovern for equal rights movement. Strongly democrat. Strong southern beliefs Baptist over the top loud. Outspoken. Strong opinion on Nixon trying to play peoples.
Mary – Likes Nixon for his conservatism. Likes that he isn’t that into civil rights. For war so is supportive of Theo’s decision. Gets mad at Janet for changing Theo. She is witchy with anyone with a different view from hers.
Theodore – Thinks Nixon is doing the right thing in Vietnam and cannot wait to join the army. His father is strict and fought in WWII. When he begins dating Janet he changes his ways and isn’t so sure he wants to fight, but he’s drafted anyway.
Lydia – Moderate. Environmentalist. Kind to everyone accepting of Hazel. Liberal but not as bad as Janet. Caring kind of quiet but can speak her mind.

Re: ideas for script
counterfactual ---
Andrew (theo) returns home from vietnam with pictures no one will believe. Maybe they're actually being paid not to tell about the horrors.

Re: ideas for script
kelsey-- if we have news reports between each scene, we can combine them at the end for the counterfactual transitions.
